Plumbing Contractor

Plumbing contractors

On a renovation or build, plumbing quotes can cover different parts of the job. The same questions put to each contractor show where their scopes differ.

What changes the price

Two contract quotes can differ in scope. One may include fixtures, trenching or connecting the hot water, and another may leave them for later, so ask each contractor what theirs leaves out.

Put the same plans and the same fixture list in front of every contractor. Their quotes only line up when they are pricing the same job.

Before the work starts

Settle the layout of the kitchen, bathroom and laundry first. Moving a toilet or a sink after the pipes are in costs far more than moving it on paper.

Keep the signed quote, the plans and any written variations together, so each payment can be checked against the work done.

Where to check

  • ABN Lookup, Australian Business Register

Shows whether a business's ABN is active or cancelled, its business type and its GST status, and the Register says the public can use it to check a business before buying.
